The Big Band Festival.
The Holzminden Big Band Festival has become a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar. Every two years – alternating with the street theatre festival – the town center turns into a stage over Pentecost, filled with swing, jazz, funk, soul, and modern brass sounds.
Over the course of three days, the festival offers free open-air concerts, workshops, and picnic formats in Kauffmannsgarten and on the market square. Professional bands, emerging artists, and local ensembles come together – from classic big bands to contemporary brass and hip-hop projects.
It’s this mix that makes the festival special: it’s not just about music, but about connection, openness, and the idea of bringing culture right into the heart of the city.

Whats is BrassWoofer?
With BrassWoofer, Holzminden welcomes a band that blends hip-hop, jazz, brass funk, and street music into a sound that feels made for movement rather than sitting still. Up front are two rappers, backed by horns, tuba, percussion, and drums delivering serious drive.
The band describes their music as a mix of “pseudo-intellectual posturing,” a “jazz-inflected appetite for risk,” and pure joy of playing. In reality, it’s all about groove, energy, and songs that are hard to resist.
BrassWoofer is based in Hannover and has been active since 2017, moving somewhere between brass band, club sound, street performance, and festival stage. The group performs both mobile and unplugged, as well as fully amplified — with megaphone, trumpets, trombones, saxophone, tuba, and drums.
